Insect Cellular Immune Foci
Time lapse images depicting the dynamic behavior of cells from the peripheral hemolymph of Manduca sexta in response to recognition of a non-self substrate. Multiphoton excitation permitted continuous long term observation of primary cultures of insect hemocytes in vitro. Cells were separated using antibodies to specific cell surface markers, and two distinct populations were labeled with either fluorescien diacetate or Rhodamine based vital stains for observation.
