Facility Fees
The following fees are in effect for use of the Microscopy Suite and Visualization Laboratory and for purchase of services and materials. Rates listed are effective as of September 19, 2008.

† The fee listed per hour is in addition to the fee charged per hour on the equipment, and is in addition to any necessary consumables such as film and Si probes.
General consulting does not include occasional help provided by our staff during normal business hours. The consulting fee applies to consulting outside normal business hours, or consulting provided as part of a special project.
Visualization Laboratory Fees
Due to high maintenance costs and our mission to provide the best equipment possible, certain pieces of equipment and certain services require additional fees for use beyond the Visualization Laboratory entry fee. These additional fees are listed in the table below.

Notes:
1 The monthly entry fee is based upon actually using the lab. If you do not enter the Visualization Laboratory nor log in to a Visualization Laboratory computer during a month, you will not be billed for that month. Entering the lab once is the same as entering the lab hundreds of times during a given month: the once-per-month fee remains the same. There is no need to deactivate your user account because of a planned period of inactivity (unless you are leaving the university), as you will not be billed when you do not use the Visualization Laboratory.
2 Consulting is training or help from ITG staff members used beyond the general introductory training or regular help for software and hardware. The general introductory training is limited to 5 hours of ITG staff time per software application or hardware device. Beyond this introductory training, consulting fees are incurred for in-depth assistance, usually taking many hours or days of ITG staff time and attention. Examples: customized Amira training for your specific project, in-depth repeated walkthroughs on Final Cut Studio, hands-on assistance with macro-photography or high-speed imaging systems, etc. Visualization Laboratory users will always be notified first if their request for assistance will result in consulting fees charged to their account. 1 hour minimum.
3 Services is basic, non-creative work performed by ITG staff and provided to researchers on a short-term, project-to-project basis, such as video tape duplication, 2D scans, 3D file format conversions (does not include changes, alterations, or enhancements to a 3D model file, these are classified at the "production" rates), etc. 1 hour minimum.
4 Production is creative production work, such as 3D modeling for publicaiton images, photography (Visualization Laboratory macro-system or on location photography by ITG staff), 3D printing model excavation and infiltration, graphics creation, animation, video production (filming, editing, etc.), etc. 1 hour minimum.
* The industrial fees reflect the inclusion of the 25.3% administrative fee.
** A Beckman Institute affiliate who checks out Visualization Laboratory equipment must be a current registered Visualization Laboratory user who has initiated (paid for) access to the Visualization Laboratory for that particular calendar month when the equipment is checked out. There are no equipment rental fees in addition to the regular monthly access fee charged to all Beckman affiliate users during months when they utilize the Visualization Laboratory. If a Beckman affiliate user has not used the Visualization Laboratory during the calendar month when the equipment is borrowed, he/she will be assessed the once-monthly Visualization Laboratory usage fee for that calendar month when the equipment is checked out. Additionally, projects unrelated to the Beckman Institute will incur a rental fee at the Non-Beckman rates.
*** The imaging equipment for checkout (Visualization Laboratory Portable Equipment) is not available to "Industrial" Visualization Laboratory users. This equipment may only be checked out by ITG users who are current UIUC faculty, students, and/or staff members.
